Chief Talent & Equity Officer

iMentor

This is a Contract position in Baton Rouge, LA posted November 20, 2021.

iMentor is seeking an inclusive, strategic, results-focused leader to serve as its next Chief Talent & Equity Officer (CTEO).

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, the CTEO will have demonstrated success as an equity advocate and will bring a people-centered approach to all aspects of talent strategy, including talent acquisition, development, and retention.

They will apply a lens of fairness and equity, actively working to dismantle white supremacy culture, and respectfully challenging individuals to be the best leaders they can be.

The CTEO will be skilled setting and holding people accountable to DEI metrics and goals, change management and bringing underrepresented voices to the table.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, the CTEO will serve as an advisor to staff across the organization, guide human capital and team structure planning, and will provide insight and guidance on key strategic decisions for the organization.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience leading internal DEI efforts with an explicit commitment to dismantling a white supremacy culture and working with teams to develop new ways of working.

Candidates must have exceptional communication skills, strategy, and process improvement experience with demonstrated skills leading discussions with individuals/groups with differing perspectives around sensitive issues and controversial topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES (see categories below) Oversee all recruiting and hiring to meet iMentor’s diverse human capital needs, ensuring iMentor implements effective recruiting strategies to develop a pipeline of equity-centered and high caliber talent across the organization Implement robust performance management strategy and tools to ensure that goals are aligned organizationally, are executed with an equity lens and that staff are clear about what is expected, and managers are prepared to effectively assess performance Drive an inclusive and anti-racist culture that values diversity and exemplifies iMentor’s core values through both vision setting, design, and implementation Set standards for new staff onboarding and professional development resources, holding managers accountable to effectively onboard and develop their teams Monitor staff satisfaction and retention, identify and get agreement on issues to address, drive initiatives to ensure that iMentor continually strives to be an even better place to work, with high quality of life for employees Lead Talent team of four (Director of Talent, Director of Equity, Talent Manager and Talent Recruiter) to achieve annual talent goals Collaborate with key leaders across the national operations team including Senior Director of Operations; Director of Legal & Compliance; and Managing Director of Finance to ensure aligned and compliant talent strategy and supports for staff.

Support iMentor organization-wide initiatives, requiring occasional evening and/or weekend events Organizational Leadership Create, refine and implement comprehensive talent strategy to position iMentor’s programs for success Identify talent implications of key program changes, organizational growth and evolve talent processes as needed Serve as a strategic advisor, content expert, thought partner, and coach regarding key management and people decisions to staff across the organization Participate on iMentor Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as a senior talent expert in the organization Model management and leadership practices expected of all iMentor staff, effectively managing the Talent team and serving as a coach and advisor to other managers Culture & DEI Implementation Create, refine and implement comprehensive talent strategy to position iMentor’s programs for success Identify talent implications of key program changes, organizational growth and evolve talent processes as needed Serve as a strategic advisor, content expert, thought partner, and coach regarding key management and people decisions to staff across the organization Participate on iMentor Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as a senior talent expert in the organization Model management and leadership practices expected of all iMentor staff, effectively managing the Talent team and serving as a coach and advisor to other managers QUALIFICATIONS 10 years of successful recruiting, talent development and team management experience, with at least 4 years in a senior management position, preferably in a fast-paced and high-growth nonprofit, consulting, and/or entrepreneurial environment with a preference for candidates with experience working with multi-site organizations Ability to both design high-level strategy and effectively implement tactics Skilled at leading change with a proven ability to develop a vision, generate buy-in and inspire others to achieve shared goals Excellent communication, collaboration and listening skills, including the ability to communicate with understanding, balance and empathy, using techniques and messages most appropriate to the situation and person Deep understanding of the concepts related to diversity, equity, inclusion as well as the contexts and cultures within organizations that impact the implementation and management of effective change efforts.

Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, with expertise in translating data into action and improvements.

Views differences between individuals (race, gender, age, cultural heritage, physical ability, education and lifestyle) as an asset and demonstrates an appreciation of diversity within iMentor and with our stakeholders Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred (MBA, JD, MPA) Employment is conditioned upon successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting is conducted by the Division of Human Resources at the NYC Department of Education.

Continued employment is contingent on successful completion of an annual rescreening.
