Pharmacy Technician

Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, a leader in Pediatric care throughout the Southeast region, is currently seeking a Certified Pharmacy Technician.

– Evenings with Rotating WeekendsPOSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for the compounding and delivery of pharmaceutical preparations in accordance with federal and state laws and in compliance with the Louisiana Board of Pharmacy (LABP).

Perform other duties as assigned.POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:1.

Under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist accurately fills medication and IVorders according to the physician orders.2.

Accurately weighs, measures and mixes ingredients , compounding and preparing medications , emulsions , powders and topical using such equipment as graduates , balances, mortars , pestles , etc.3.

Accurately fills bottles , capsules , oral syringes and other package forms with measured amounts of medication according to the physician’s order.4.

Accurately prepares injectable and irrigation solutions .

Mixes IV additive solutions using aseptic technique with the laminar flow hood.5.

Prepares pre-packaged products and records pre-packing data appropriately.6.

Prepares compounded products and records compounding data appropriately.7.

Makes hourly rounds to deliver medications to/from nursing units.8.

Exchanges the patient medication carts according to the scheduled time.9.

Assists Pharmacy Buyer by receiving and stocking drugs and supplies, verifying items received against invoices , and promptly placing perishable items in refrigerators or freezers.10.

Routinely restocks patient care areas with medications as indicated by the Omnicell refill lists and floor stock sheets.11.

Enters manual charges.12.

Maintains the work area in an orderly and clean manner at all times.13.

Reports any incomplete assignments to ensure continuity of medication preparation and distribution.14.

Conducts monthly inspection of assigned nursing units and areas within the hospital wheredrugs are dispensed, stored or administered.15.

Maintains proper levels of inventory and requests additional inventory as necessary.16.

Maintains records whenever drugs are borrowed from or loaned to other facilities.17.

Completes all work assignments during the shift without interference to the quality of work performed.18.

Responds to changes in the work load schedule as necessary ; continually uses time in a productive manner (stocks shelves, organizes, cleans, etc.)19.

Demonstrates a willingness to adjust personal schedule in case of departmental need(staying late to finish important duties , filling in for a co-worker , preparing for inspections or inventories, etc.)20.

Fulfills Continuing Education and license renewal requirements in a timely manner.21.

Develops knowledge and skills in various areas of Pharmacy (IV preparation, compounding, medication charges , etc.)22.

Performs other pharmacy technician duties as assigned.REQUIRED:High School diploma or GED.
