Children’s Hospital of New Orleans, a leader in Pediatric care throughout the Southeast region, is currently seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist for Children’s Hospital ER Metairie.

The mission of making care available to all children has allowed Children’s to grow as an organization.JOB SUMMARYProvides respiratory therapy to neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, young adults and adults as ordered by physicians, according to established standards and practices in the ambulatory outpatient setting.EDUCATION:Minimum Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy.EXPERIENCE:Previous experience preferred.

Pediatric experience preferred.LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Minimum Required: Licensed in Respiratory Therapy in the State of Louisiana.

Credentialed by the NBRC as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or new graduate must obtain within 6 months.

BLS Healthcare Provider Certification from the American Heart Association.Preferred: PALS and NRP provider certification; Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS)JOB STANDARDS:Performs all types of therapy on neonates, infant, toddlers, school age children, adolescents* Performs all types of therapy of therapy on neonates, infants, toddlers, school age children, adolescents, Bronchodilator Therapy ( Intermittent, Continuous) Hyperinflation Therapy (IPPB, EZPAP, IPV Chest Physical Therapy ( Vibratory, Mask Vest))*Gas Therapy (Oxygen Therapy, home ventilator management BIPAP/CPAP management*Airway Management (Security and Patency: Tracheostomies, suctioning* Monitoring: Apnea Monitor, Continuous Pulse ox, Pharmacology Electrocardiograms*Pulmonary Function Testing: calibrates the system and checks calibration report, performs all pulmonary function tests (Spirometry, DLCO, TGV, RAW, Max Pressures, MVV, Plethysmography, FENO, etc.), recognizes valid vs.

invalid test results, recognizes when to proceed with further testing using the PFT algorithm* Performs patient education: educates parents and patients on the appropriate disease process, proper medication use, and cleaning techniques, documents education in EPICLaboratory Maintenance, Documentation, and Quality Assurance*Scans all pages in file into EPIC*Maintains appropriate logs and documentation related to all diagnostic procedures.*Completes all charges before the end of the shift*Maintains the function of all special procedures equipment in a standby working order (perform preventative maintenance on all equipment and maintain the maintenance logs.)*Recognizes when equipment is out of calibration and/or malfunctioning and in a timely manner takes appropriate corrective action*Cleans and sterilizes all patient care equipment and maintains in a state of readiness* Relays to the manager any special equipment and supply needs*Keeps the Clinic Manger informed of all incidents concerning the department and special procedure equipment*Reviews and revises the Policy and Procedure manual as needed*Participates in QA/QI projects as assigned*Maintains a record of procedural statisticsSweat Testing*Sweat testing: schedules sweat test with the parent.*Performs sweat test following hospital policy*Documents in EPIC and collects lab specimen, using 2 patient identifiers*Sends specimen to lab via courier transport* Notify ordering provider of insufficient volume collected when applicable*Notify ordering provider of results, and schedule any re-testing needed*Provide education to parents on testing process, obtaining results, and other topics as outlined by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation*Document Education in EPICComplies with additional policies and procedures which contributes to the efficiency, safety and integrity of the department*Follows standard precautions at all times when dealing with blood or body fluids*Follows hospital safety and infection control policies reporting safety issues to clinic manager as they occur, maintaining a clean and safe work environment*Attends in-services/learning center assignments as deemed appropriate by management*Attends staff meetings*Offers assistance to others when assignments are complete*Encourages teamwork among co-workers*Assists in the clinical orientation of new/less skilled personnel or students from partnering respiratory programs as requested by the supervisor and /or Education Coordinator*Performs other duties as assigned or requested* Knows the location of all O2 and air systems and how to manage in an emergency*Restocks equipment/supplies when necessary and notifies appropriate personnel for equipment ordering*Adjusts schedule according to needs of departmentChildren’s Hospital is a 247-bed, not-for-profit medical center offering the most advanced pediatric care for children from birth to 21 years.
