Warehouse and Inventory Specialist

Job Description FTS is seeking a Warehouse Specialist the Harahan area for an industrial engine service and overhaul facility. Responsible for assisting in a variety of warehouse duties, including shipping & receiving, parts inventory, unloading and loading trucks, parts handling, picking parts, and building orders. This role will work independently, wearing multiple hats and qualified candidates will have prior experience working inventory in an ERP. Basic Functions : · To confirm and maintain inventory accuracy electronically (Trax / Latitude) and physically (warehouse / Parts Room) while performing all warehousing functions. · To ensure all product movement is recorded timely and properly within the system. · To count and verify inventory while picking and shipping parts to fulfill Sales and Work Orders. · To count, verify and reconcile the perpetual inventory while performing cycle counts. · Attention to detail since warehouse associates must be able to find and extract merchandise from storage areas and shelves. Duties and Responsibilities : Outbound · Process outgoing shipments of customer orders accurately and timely to meet customer expectations. · Prepare and assemble orders in a timely and accurate fashion (picking and packing). · Pack, seal, and label to prepare materials for shipping using hand tools and power tools. · Record shipment data such as weights and dimensions for reporting and invoicing purposes. · Prepare documents such as work orders, bills of lading or shipping orders to route materials. · Prepare and process shipments using UPS or FedEx systems and determine best shipping method given the service level, route, and cost of materials to be shipped. · Contact small parcel carriers to plan or issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials. Inbound · Inspect shipment contents and compare with records such as packing slips, manifests, invoices, or purchase orders to verify accuracy. · Confer or correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems such as damages, shortages, or nonconformance to specifications. · Perform stocking functions and update system accordingly. Inventory Control · Responsible for helping to improve inventory accuracy. · Conduct weekly cycle counts. · Compare and reconcile inventory counts to computer records and determine if discrepancies exist. · Research inventory discrepancies. · Determine root cause by reviewing and understanding transaction history and product movement throughout warehouse. · Perform inventory audits to determine if initial counts were correct. · Perform inventory controls and maintain high quality standards for audits. Overall · Load and unload trucks using a fork lift. · Maintain a high level of performance in all aspects of the job. · Keep a neat and organized work space. · Assist in parts pulling, packing, shipping, receiving and counting. · Perform other duties as assigned. · While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach and move about the facility. Required Experience and Education : · Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. · 2 -5 years related warehouse, shipping, or inventory experience. · Must be proficient in basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division). · Must have an excellent work ethic and detailed oriented. · Must be motivated to perform tasks and identify improvement opportunities. · Proficient in basic office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) preferred. · Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with team members, read and decipher work orders, and report back to the warehouse supervisor/manager. · Must have prior experience working in multi-layered inventory systems, ERP experience highly preferred Required Skills : · Ability to acquire license to operate fork lift and turret truck. · Possess a valid driver’s license. · Reading, logical and deductive reasoning skills must be strong. · Exceptional problem solver. · General understanding of various departmental functions such as receiving, shipping, inventory control and quality control. · Previous Inventory Control experience preferred. Initiative and Ingenuity : · Take responsibility to identify and improve inventory accuracy opportunities. · Ensure problems are dealt with immediately and with urgency. · Thoroughly investigate inventory discrepancies. · Maintains quality service by following organization standards. Physical Demands : · Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Anything over 50 pounds must be a team lift. · Warehouse environment may be hot or cold depending on time of year. · Good endurance skills, as warehouse associates must be able to walk for up to nine hours a day and endure long hours of work. · Must be able to occasionally climb stairs to retrieve parts located on 2nd floor Mental and/or Visual Demand : · Use of computer terminal and keyboard as much as 4 – 6 hours per day. · Lighting in warehouse or storage locations may be limited at times. Consequence of Mistakes : · Has a direct impact on the service levels of both internal and external customers. · Inaccurate inventory will lead to lost sales and increased back orders. · Excessive counting mistakes will not be tolerated. Working with Others : · Must interact with all departments. · Must be able to provide guidance to all departments while maintaining mutual respect and cooperation. · Must represent the interest of the company regarding protection of company’s investment (inventory parts).
