(e/aH-1QlP0r6o?list=PL8u-tkjAp9fBQ_dYsFoYDyp5p4pvCWZD7)POSITION SUMMARY:The purpose of the job is to establish and maintain a sterile field and safe environment throughout the surgical procedure, to assess instrumentation and equipment needs, and to anticipate and provide instrumentation and equipment needs for the surgeon’s use in a timely manner to enhance patient outcomes.The Work On Weekend Plan (WOW) has been created to provide weekend coverage and decrease the number of weekends worked by the staff and outside agencies.

The number of weekend positions is limited and will be posted in-house first and filled by qualified applicants on a first come basis.JOB REQUIREMENTS : Education
– Successful completion of a technical or vocational school surgical technician program, Associate Degree Surgical Technician, preferred.Experience
– 2 Years experience required.License/Certification
– Certified Surgical Tech, required; Basic Life Support-HCP, Required.PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:+ Must work at least two (2), 12-hour shifts between 7:00 pm Friday Night and 7:00 am Monday.+ MUST work every weekend, holidays included, at regular rate.

May request one weekend off per calendar quarter, subject to department approval.+ New higher Premium flat rates plus Weekend Day and Night Differentials.

NO CALL.POSITION DUTIES:+ Demonstrates knowledge and practice of basic patient care concepts: Performs and/or provides scrub assistance during procedures which reflect awareness of anatomy, necessary principles, skills, supplies and adequate knowledge base.

Assists the circulating nurse in implementing the perioperative plan of care to include: patient positioning, confirmation/preparation of operative site, updating physician preference card, care of operative specimens and room turnover.

Demonstrates the application of the principles of asepsis: Adheres to unit specific standards, policies and procedures for aseptic technique.+ Demonstrates the ability to perform the role of first scrub on all basic surgical cases: Anticipates the needs of the surgeon, which includes passing instruments, sutures and other items appropriate to the procedure.

Establishes and maintains and organized sterile field.

Assists the surgeon by retracting tissue, holding instrumentation to provide exposure and cutting suture under the direct supervision of the surgeon.

Supply Room Access: Enters supply room(s) on nursing units as needed to perform necessary job functions.

Refrains from manipulating or removing any intravenous fluids that are stored in the area.+ Selects proper sterilization method of instruments/equipment: sterilizes prior to procedures, as necessary and verifies instruments as sterile.

Takes corrective action when any unsafe practice, conditions or breaks in aseptic technique occur and reports information to the circulating nurse.

Demonstrates basic surgical case preparation skills: Assists with pulling cases and checks case cart for completeness, obtains supplies and equipment and determines them to be in good working order before a case begins.

Prepares the operating room by opening sterile supplies, instruments, and sutures based on scheduled procedure and surgeon preference card.
