Process Controls Engineer

The Process Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, testing, maintaining, troubleshooting and overseeing implementations of new processes or existing systems. They will create and implement new strategies to improve process efficiency, as well as support start-up activities.

The Process Controls Engineer will:

  • Maintain DCS (Honeywell) and PLC based control systems.
  • Be familiar with computer based systems, Data Historians, DCS Mapping, RTMS.
  • Maintain and manage software and hardware support.
  • Manage all contractors and Technical Professionals that perform work on the DCS system.
  • Manage the Operations and Capital budgets and spending for site automation systems.
  • Maintain and develop the controls system to ensure safety, improve quality, minimize financial leakage, increase production, and automate routine tasks.
  • Maintain and improve CL programming, ladder logic and DCS schematics for the plant.
  • Perform technical project-based duties concerning the planning, designing, installing, configuring, maintaining and integration of systems.
  • Implement advanced process controls at the site.
  • Establish and maintain a 5-year plan for necessary upgrades to the DCS and control systems.
  • Basic IT functions.

The Process Controls Engineer will have:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or Electrical Engineering related technical field.
  • 5+ years in chemical plant manufacturing (preferred) and an instrumentation background.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written, ability to vary style to meet needs.
  • Fluency in process controls systems.
  • Ability to read/write programming code, CL (AM and HPM), Visual Basic.
  • Understand and develop Boolean Logic.
  • Support Aspen Products (IP21).
  • Support and use DOC 4000 and Matricon (PAS) Alarm Management software.
  • Versed in NFPA 85/86 Boiler/Furnace controls.
  • Program HMI and PLC’s using either ladder logic or Sequential Function Logic.
  • Hands-on experience with Honeywell TDC3000 and Experion systems and instrumentation.
  • Experience in DCS related fields.
  • Spec and size control valves.
  • Size and spec either d/p or other types of flow meters (Coriolis or Mag).
  • Electrical support up to 480V systems.
  • VFD’s, Motors, UPS systems.
