Patient Access Representative – ER

Patient Access Representatives are responsible for processes associated with pre-admission, admission, pre-registration, and/or registration of all patients into SMH clinics, hospital, or Emergency/OP Surgery departments. They greet and direct patients/guests in a courteous manner via face-to-face interactions and telephone communications, improves patient satisfaction through consistent professionalism, and are cross-trained to support multiple functions across all patient and/or payer types. This position is also responsible for effective communications between patients, caregivers, departments and/or physician offices to ensure a positive experience for all involved in the continuum of care

  • Medical insurance processes (billing, credentialing, coding, etc.)

  • Maintain confidentiality and HIPAA compliance in daily operations

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent telephone and customer service

  • Willingness to interact with the public

  • Genuine willingness to prevent/resolve interpersonal conflicts

  • Ability to prioritize, perform multiple clerical tasks, organize and plan daily work

    Preferred:

  • Associates degree

  • EPIC experience

  • 3 years of experience

    Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • 1 year of experience

  • Medical terminology

  • Hospital, clinic, revenue cycle, patient registration, financial counseling, insurance billing, and/or direct healthcare experience.

    Preferred:

  • CPAT certification

  • MOA certification
