Job Summary: The Data Entry Specialist I is responsible for ensuring that data from both electronic and hard-copy medical claims received from Vantage Health Plan (VHP) and Blue Cross Blue Shield Advantage (BCBSLA) providers are entered into the claims processing system accurately and in a timely manner.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Enter data from hard-copy medical claims accurately and timely
• Audit data from hard copy medical claims and correct as needed
• Consistently meet or exceed productivity, quality, and attendance standards and requirements
Marginal Duties:
• Assist in Imaging as needed
• Assist with special projects as needed
• Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Entry level to 2+ years of medical data entry experience
• Familiarity with medical terminology preferred
• Ability to work under stress and thrive in a structured, production-driven environment while maintaining focus and accuracy
• Ability to navigate through multiple computer programs with ease including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
• Highly organized and efficient with strong attention to detail
• Ability to perform simple calculations
• Attendance and punctuality are a must
• 10-key by touch
• Minimum typing speed of 40 WPM
• Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced, ever-evolving environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of staff
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Supervision Received:
• Works under general supervision of the Data Entry & Imaging Supervisor
Working Conditions:
• This position operates in a professional office environment
• This is a full-time position (40 hours/week)
• Overtime required at times pending incoming volume and production deadlines
• Break and lunch times may be adjusted by the department leadership as needed according to claims volume
• Due to the nature of this position, distractions, such as cell phones, must be limited to ensure accuracy and production goals are met
• Travel may be required
