Job Description

Technical Project Manager
As a Project Manager, you would contribute to CDM Smiths mission by maintaining liaison with individuals and units within or outside organization.

Planning, developing, coordinating, and directing several large and important projects or a project of major scope and complexity.

Working with a few (3 to 5) subordinate supervisors or team leaders.

Directing the work of a staff (typically 10 to 20) engineers and technicians.

More specifically, you would create project definitions, schedules, budgets and objectives.

Prepare detailed statements of work with associated work breakdown structures and gain concurrence and approval from internal and external stakeholders regarding various project aspects.

Assess potential project risk and outline risk mitigation solutions.

Ensure adherence to company and project management policies, procedures and practices.

Manage project costs to ensure profitability.

Identify, quantify, and communicate residual risk (time and cost).

Create and review timely client billings with internal billing support.

Responsible for ensuring timely client payment and follow up on outstanding client invoices to obtain payment.

Review and approve subcontractor/vendor invoices to ensure timely payment to outside resources.

Manage project change using change management protocols.

Ensure proper review of project scope by safety managers and proper implementation of safety plans.

Develop and implement project resource plan and manage the staffing of assigned projects.

Clearly communicate project deadlines, assignments and objectives to project team members.

Assigns work and provides direction to project staff regarding timeliness and completion of project objectives.

Provide feedback to staff on project performance.

Build, maintain and manage strong client relationships.

Ensure client satisfaction by delivering quality, on-time project outcomes as a result of good planning and organizational skills; manage client expectations.

As a technical specialist, you would, with high-level goals provided, create and sign off on basic to highly complex designs involving site layout development, site grading and drainage, hydraulics and hydrology calculations, water distribution systems, collection systems, and stormwater infrastructure and treatment.

Review draft designs for compliance with federal, state and local regulations.

Ensure that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.

Perform site reviews and studies, as needed, to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.

Update design requirements as necessary.

Contribute to firms Technical Knowledge Management (TKM) by developing presentations and technical design documentation of new or special case designs, studies, etc.

Collaborate with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).

Meet with clients to review their current and future design needs.

Attend conferences, symposia, etc.

to improve the visibility of the firms products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff.

Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff, develop them for future growth within the discipline and firm.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors Degree.

4 years of related experience.

PMP (PMI), CCM or DBIA certification is required (within 12 months of hire or promotion onto the Approved Project Manager list).

Domestic and/or international travel may be required.

The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.

Skills and Abilities

Experience working with project management methodology including budget development, project planning, control and assurance methodologies, project management software and finance and accounting concepts and practices.

Possesses in-depth knowledge of project goals, drivers, strategies, risks and opportunities.

Demonstrates good communications skills, both verbal and written.

Possesses ability to interact with varying levels of staff, as well as vendors.

Good interpersonal and presentation skills for interacting with team members and clients.

Ability to deal with many people, and process a large volume of requests as necessary.

Good personal computer skills including proficiency in MS Word and Excel.

Demonstrates good organizational skills to balance and prioritize work.

In addition, during employment individuals may be required by CDM Smith or a CDM Smith client to successfully complete additional background checks, including motor vehicle record as well as drug testing.
